elcomUkraine 2010: 260 exhibitors from 17 countries attend some 10,500 professionals
During the year 2009, the Ukrainian energy and electro-technology market experienced a considerable downturn. German exports of electro-technical products to Ukraine, for instance, decreased by 51.9 %, but nevertheless amounted to Euro 477.9 million. Meanwhile Ukrainian exports of electro-technology to Germany dropped by 11.6 % to now Euro 188.5 million. (Figures courtesy of ZVEI-the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association)
As outlined by Ubifrance for elcomUkraine, however, the Ukrainian market has got good prospects on the medium and the long run:
- With an amount of 193 TWH of electric power generation in 2008, Ukraine ranks 12th on a global scale. Because of aged technologies, the country offers plenty of business opportunities in the energy-efficiency sector in order to reduce power consumption, which for the time being is twice as high as in Germany.
- The majority of the 28 Ukrainian power distributing enterprises as well as 1 out of 6 power generation suppliers have been successfully privatised.
- International funds have been attributed and allow the sector to develop: US $ 200 million for the modernisation of sub-stations and the extension of the energy distribution network until the year 2012; and US $ 106 for the modernisation of production capacities.
- The target to harmonise the Ukrainian energy network with the European UCTE-norms has been adopted within the “Energy Strategy 2030”.
Given these promising prospects, it comes at no surprise having achieved a very considerable participation for elcomUkraine 2010.
